Youth to keep busy at John Wesley

The John Wesley Community Centre (JWCC) IN Etwattwa has come to the rescue of unemployed and disillusioned youth in the area.

The centre announced at the launch of a programme to keep the youth busy while they are still looking for employment  instead of wallowing in at home in despair.

The JWCC runs a plethora of other community self-help projects which, while some are paid for by participants, are free.  The Changing Life after grade 12 initiative will be free to youngsters who passed their matric in the last two years.

Trevor Lubisi, the initiator of the programme, expressed hope that it will reap the intended rewards. “This initiative will lead the despondent youth on the path to achieving more with their lives,” Lubisi said at the launch. He added that it will hopefully lead them away from negative thoughts."We hope that it will equip them with faith in education.”

The youth will attend classes in career guidance, life skills development programmes and computer literacy three days in a week. They will do physical training on Fridays.

“The programme will keep them focused” Lubisi pointed out. “It will instill positive behaviour that will lead to them being good citizens.” Experts in the fields of labour relations and entrepreneurship will visit the youths from time to time.
